Clave is a neobank challenger built on blockchain rails. Giving any individual across the globe access to stable financial tools at a fraction of the cost of traditional banking apps. Clave utilizes stablecoins, DeFi and smart accounts to offer high interest rate saving products, crypto investing and trading, and a debit card to make spending stablecoins familiar and accessible.

Challenge

Evolving from a single-chain wallet into a chainless neobank

Clave launched in 2024 as the world's first passkey-based, self-custodial mobile wallet, redefining simplicity in crypto investing on ZKsync Era. They surprised and delighted users with effortless flows for investing, earning, and spending, all powered by account abstraction.

But innovation never rests. Whilst Clave had achieved best-in-class wallet UX with the power of smart accounts, the Layer 2 blockchain ecosystem had exploded and Clave’s user feedback became clear; navigating multiple chains, fragmented liquidity, and cumbersome bridging were reintroducing complexity. Clave needed a fully multi-chain product where chains, bridging, and gas were invisible to the user. 

Clave recognized that building and operating multi-chain smart accounts and crosschain execution infrastructure internally would require deep onchain expertise, extensive security work, and ongoing operational overhead. For a lean team, this would slow down product velocity and dilute focus. To speed up its rollout schedule without straining engineering resources, Clave required a partner with a proven smart account and intent infrastructure expertise.

• Gas abstraction: Clave delivers a stablecoin-only experience that does not require users to manage gas tokens across any supported network.

Using Rhinestone, Clave delivers a completely self-custodial wallet with an intuitive onboarding experience via Passkeys (biometrics). This enables a familiar onboarding mechanism already supported by Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple, without introducing third-party custody dependencies.

Simple SDK and API toolset

Through a unified TypeScript SDK and API, Clave integrates smart accounts, Passkey-based key management, and seamless crosschain intent execution. For a lean team of developers wholly focused on product development, not having to build these foundations from scratch was crucial.
